Community

Being involved in our local community means we get to do something good for others, helping us to feel positive as well as giving us a sense of pride and accomplishment. We also love to hold events and welcome time when we can get together with others. This page gives you an idea of the things we get up to!

Small Business of the Year 2025 – Goole & Howdenshire Business Excellence Awards

In 2025, we were absolutely delighted to be awarded Small Business of the Year at the prestigious Goole & Howdenshire Business Excellence Awards.

It is a real honour to be recognised alongside so many outstanding local businesses across Goole and Howdenshire. This award reflects the hard work, passion, and dedication we bring every day to delivering an exceptional service while supporting our local community and regional economy.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Grotech Productions for sponsoring the Small Business of the Year Award, and to the event organisers for hosting such a memorable and well‑run evening. The awards ceremony provided a fantastic opportunity to celebrate local business success, connect with fellow professionals, and recognise the achievements of the Goole and Howdenshire business community.

We are incredibly proud to serve our local area and excited for what the future holds. Thank you to our clients, partners, and supporters for being part of our journey—this achievement would not have been possible without your continued support.

Celebrating Inclusive Sport at the Yorkshire Children of Courage Awards 2025

We were honoured to attend the Yorkshire Children of Courage Awards 2025, hosted by the St. James’s Place Charitable Foundation. It was a truly inspiring evening celebrating the bravery, determination, and outstanding achievements of young people across Yorkshire.

At Yorkshire Financial Planning, we are proud supporters of inclusive sport through our sponsorship of the Hull FC Community Foundation Physical Disability Rugby League (PDRL) team. This year, we had the privilege of nominating one of their exceptional players for the Sporting Superstar Award—and we are delighted to share that he won.

Sporting Superstar Award Winner: Corey Davies

Corey Davies is an extraordinary young athlete living with Cerebral Palsy. His positive “can‑do” attitude, resilience, and determination inspire everyone who meets him. In 2025 alone, Corey achieved remarkable milestones, earning his first international cap and being named Player of the Year for his team—an incredible testament to his talent, commitment, and character.

We could not be prouder of Corey, his family, and the Hull FC PDRL team for their continued dedication to promoting physical disability sport and empowering others through inclusive opportunities.

Congratulations, Corey—a truly deserving winner of the Sporting Superstar Award.

We would also like to thank everyone who joined us for this memorable and uplifting event, and to congratulate all the winners. The evening showcased the work of remarkable young people, charities, and community organisations making a positive difference across Yorkshire.

Supporting initiatives that champion inclusivity, opportunity, and community impact remains at the heart of what we do at Yorkshire Financial Planning.

Proud Supporters of Hull FC Physical Disability Rugby League (PDRL)

We are proud sponsors and ambassadors of Hull FC Physical Disability Rugby League (PDRL), supporting the club since 2024 and continuing our long‑term commitment to inclusive sport.

We’re proud to support inclusivity and accessibility in sport through our sponsorship of PDRL, helping to ensure that Rugby League is open to players of all physical abilities.

Physical Disability Rugby League (PDRL) is a full‑contact version of Rugby League adapted for individuals with physical disabilities, providing access to the running game of Rugby League in a safe, competitive, and inclusive environment.

While full‑contact tackles are a core part of the game, players whose disabilities limit full‑contact participation play under Touch Rugby League (Touch RL) tackle rules. These players are identified by wearing red shorts during matches.

To maintain safety and competitive balance, a maximum of two physically disabled players playing under Touch RL rules can be on the field at any one time. This approach ensures fair play while keeping the game inclusive for all participants.

Our continued support of Hull FC PDRL reflects our wider commitment to equality, accessibility, and community engagement through sport, helping to grow awareness of Physical Disability Rugby League across Hull and the wider region.

Friends of Holme School - Supporting Education and the Local Community

In 2024, Jo became a Governor at her local primary school and a committee member of the Friends of Holme School charity, demonstrating her commitment to education and community development. She has since been appointed Chair of Governors, where she is passionate about helping the school deliver its mission of giving every child, every chance, every day.

The school is currently fundraising for the OPAL Project, an initiative designed to renovate and revitalise the school playground and outdoor spaces to enhance both play and learning. The project aims to create a richer outdoor learning environment, with proposed developments including a forest school area, a dedicated growing space, and a range of additional play and educational enhancements.

Through her roles, Jo actively supports the school by taking part in fundraising activities, serving as the Lead Governor for the OPAL Project, and assisting the committee with grant writing and funding applications to help maximise investment in the school’s facilities.

Supporting and educating the next generation is fundamental to what we do. Jo is deeply passionate about getting involved in her local community and working collaboratively to support the school, ensuring pupils have access to inspiring spaces that encourage learning, play, and wellbeing.

Supporting Wildlife and Local Conservation

If Caroline had chosen a different path from becoming a Financial Adviser, her calling would undoubtedly have been to work with animals and wildlife. Driven by a lifelong passion for nature and animal welfare, Caroline proudly volunteers with Hessle Hedgehogs, a small, volunteer‑run hedgehog rescue and sanctuary based in Hessle.

Yorkshire Financial Planning actively supports the charity by sponsoring a hutch at the hedgehog hospital and contributing to ongoing fundraising efforts. Alongside this, Caroline is closely involved with the committee, supporting a range of projects including calendar design, marketing initiatives, and social media management, helping to raise awareness and funding for the sanctuary’s vital work.

Caroline’s commitment to wildlife conservation extends beyond her volunteer role. Her garden also serves as one of the charity’s local hedgehog release sites, providing a safe and natural environment for rehabilitated hedgehogs when they are ready to return to the wild.

Supporting local conservation projects and protecting British wildlife aligns closely with our wider values, reflecting a strong commitment to community involvement, environmental responsibility, and charitable support across Yorkshire.

Supporting Local Events and Community Fundraising in Hessle

With Caroline based in Hessle, supporting local community events and initiatives is a key focus for Yorkshire Financial Planning. We are always looking for meaningful ways to give back and support local charities and grassroots projects across the area.

In 2022, 2023, and 2024, Caroline opened her garden to the public as part of a wider community open gardens event, joining other local residents in welcoming visitors from across the region. The event proved hugely popular, attracting over 1,000 visitors in a single day and raising a significant amount of money for local and Hessle‑based charities.

To promote biodiversity and environmental responsibility, Yorkshire Financial Planning provided every visitor with a packet of bee‑friendly cosmos seeds, supporting pollinators by encouraging late‑summer food sources for bees and other vital insects.

After taking a year off in 2025 due to major house renovations, we are delighted to say that we look forward to opening Caroline’s garden again in 2026, continuing to support community fundraising, environmental initiatives, and local causes in Hessle.

Supporting St Luke’s Hospice Through Charity Fundraising

In September 2023, Jo joined friends to complete a 160‑foot abseil down the Owen Building in Sheffield, raising vital funds for the incredible St Luke’s Hospice Sheffield.

Taking on the challenge with courage and determination, the group successfully raised over £3,600 to support St Luke’s Hospice in its mission to provide compassionate care, comfort, and support to patients and families affected by terminal illness.

This fundraising effort reflects a strong commitment to community involvement and charitable giving, helping to ensure that St Luke’s Hospice can continue delivering essential end‑of‑life care across Sheffield and the surrounding region.

Celebrating Our First Business Anniversary with Clients

In September 2022, we hosted an exclusive client event to celebrate our first year in business, marking an important milestone for Yorkshire Financial Planning. The celebration took place at the beautiful Little Wold Vineyard in South Cave, a stunning local venue known for its award‑winning wines and picturesque surroundings.

Guests enjoyed a curated tasting of local wines and artisan cheeses, providing the perfect setting to reflect on our first year and thank clients for their continued support. Holding the event at a South Cave vineyard allowed us to showcase and support a fantastic local Yorkshire business.

We look forward to hosting our next client celebration and continuing to create memorable experiences as our business continues to grow.

Supporting Owl Conservation in Yorkshire

In 2022, we were delighted to sponsor Pablo, a burrowing owl, at the Thirsk Birds of Prey Centre, supporting vital owl conservation efforts in Yorkshire.

Wildlife conservation is close to our hearts, and we’re proud to support this Yorkshire‑based birds of prey centre, which plays an important role in education, rehabilitation, and conservation.

If you’re looking for a great family day out in Yorkshire, we highly recommend visiting Thirsk Birds of Prey Centre and seeing the incredible work they do firsthand.

Supporting Local Charities at Christmas

At Christmas 2021, we invited our clients to nominate a charity to receive a cash donation, helping us support meaningful causes within our local communities.

One of the nominated charities was Amy’s House in Sheffield, a fantastic organisation that provides specialist care and support for children with special educational needs and disabilities, as well as vital support for their families.

We were delighted to award the donation to Mrs M’s chosen charity, with the funds going directly towards equipping a new sensory room, creating a safe and enriching environment to support children’s development and wellbeing.

This initiative reflects our ongoing commitment to charitable giving, community involvement, and supporting families across Sheffield and the surrounding region, especially at times of year when giving back matters most
